First bloom of the year on my St. Patrick's Day rose, and I almost missed it because I was out of town camping. We had a heatwave so I got home at the peak of it's bloom.

There are many disease and insect resistant varieties of roses now. Explain to your gardener the troubles you are having and they can often steer you in the right direction.
